From Mountain Fuji to Hokusai

The Corfu Museum of Asian Art, as part of the Educational Programs that schedules every year, will perform during the year 2013 an educational program entitled: ‘from Mountain Fuji to Hokusai’.

The educational program was under the supervision of Despina Zernioti, Director of the Corfu Museum of Asian Art, and was set up and contacted by the archaeologist Konstantinos Christopoulos.

Program’s structure:

  1. Speech and presentation of slides under the subject of Mountain Fuji and its significance to Japanese culture – children will come in contact with the Japanese civilisation and specially with mountain Fuji, Japanese mythology and traditions, as well as the Japanese art of woodblock printing, through lectures and projections.
  2. Two workshops related to the production of printings using woodblock technique and the tatebanko Japanese art of paper. Children will participate to these workshops to produce printings using the traditional technique of woodblock printing, as well as the tatebanko technique (Japanese technique for creating three dimensional scenes from paper).
  3. Guided tour to the Museum’s Japanese wing to three selected Japanese printings pertaining to the printing series ’36 views of Mountain Fuji’ by the artist Katsushika Hokusai, and distribution of relative flyer.

The program is addressed to elementary students of the 4th, 5th & 6th grades.
