Little Samurai: 100 Candles, 100 Music Tales

The Corfu Museum of Asian Art, as part of the Educational Programs that schedules every year, performed during the year 2014 an educational program entitled “Little Samurai: 100 candles, 100 music tales”.

The program was addressed to elementary students of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th grades and took place from February untill the end of May 2014.

The educational program gave more than 600 students the opportunity to become acquainted with one of the most famous aspect of the Japanese culture, the Samurai, as well as with music tales based on traditional japanese fairy tales.

The educational program was under the supervision of Despina Zernioti, Director of the Corfu Museum of Asian Art, and was set up and contacted by the archaeologist Konstantinos Christopoulos.

The program was performed with the collaboration of students of the Ionian University in the Music Studies department.

Program’s structure:

  1. Music tales based in traditional Japanese fairy tales.
  2. Speech and presentation of slides under the subject of Samurai’s life and their importance in the Japanese culture.
  3. Understanding the main traditional Japanese music instruments with audio extracts including significant instruments like the biwa and the koto.
  4. Learning and performing traditional Japanese childrens’ songs.
